In July 2024, under the organization and guidance of the China Urban Science Research Society, the Professional Committee successfully applied for the China Association for Science and Technology’s “Science and Technology Innovation China” project—the Underground Space Intelligent Manufacturing and New Materials Technology Service Team. The team is led by the committee’s chairperson, Liang Wenhao, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, who serves as the chief expert, while Shen Chi, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Urban Science Research Society, serves as the team leader.
To address the needs of the underground space industry, the team brings together top domestic and international industry experts as well as enterprises across the industrial chain. It focuses on providing technology services in key cities such as Suzhou, Nanjing, and Xuzhou in Jiangsu Province, extending its coverage to Wuxi, Changzhou, and other cities along the Yangtze River Delta Science and Technology Innovation Corridor.
The team’s efforts include offering joint technology services to enterprises related to underground space, emphasizing intelligent equipment design and production across the entire lifecycle of underground spaces, as well as the research and development of high-performance composite materials, functional materials, and smart materials. These initiatives aim to enhance the structural safety and usability of underground spaces.
To date, the team has conducted four industry-academia-research research activities in cities such as Suzhou, Nanjing, and Guangzhou. Based on enterprise needs, it has carried out technology services such as industrial technology diagnostics, joint technical research, and industrial development planning. These efforts have established a regularized model of collaboration between associations and local governments (or enterprises), created a paradigm for technology service transfer and transformation, and fostered industrial chains and clusters for underground space equipment and new materials.
Representatives from the China Association for Science and Technology, the Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology, and the Suzhou Association for Science and Technology participated in these research activities.
