The “Science and Innovation China” International Technical Training on Underground Space Environment Governance Industry was successfully held

To further promote the high-quality development of urban underground spaces and industrial technological innovation, and accelerate the promotion and application of internationally advanced underground space environmental governance technologies in China, the “Science and Technology Innovation for China” International Technical Training on Underground Space Environmental Governance Industry was successfully held on June 9, 2025, at the Singapore-Nanjing Eco Hi-Tech Island.

This training is guided by the International Water Association (IWA) and the Singapore-Nanjing Eco Hi-Tech Island Management Committee. It is jointly organized by the Jiangsu Underground Space Society, the Underground Space Professional Committee of the China Society for Urban Studies, the China-Singapore Underground Space and Urban Sustainable Innovation Industry Alliance, and the China-Singapore Underground Space Innovation Center. Qingdao Daosikang Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., China-Singapore Deep Earth Technology Service (Nanjing) Co., Ltd., and Nanjing Haichuan Environmental Protection Co., Ltd. are the co-organizers. The training attracted more than 20 participants, including managers of wastewater treatment plants, representatives of technical service providers in the field of underground space environmental governance, and professors from universities. The event aims to enhance the industry’s technical capabilities and management levels through knowledge sharing and experience exchange with top international experts.

Focus on the frontier, with international masters giving lectures in person

Huang Jun, Deputy Director and Secretary-General of the Underground Space Professional Committee of the China Society for Urban Studies, delivered a speech on behalf of the organizing unit, extending warm welcome and sincere gratitude to academician Hasha and his team, environmental protection managers, technical experts, and other participants. He emphasized that urban underground space can be regarded as the “fourth land” beyond land, sea, and sky, which is of extraordinary significance. Currently, China is fully accelerating the deep integration of underground infrastructure construction and environmental protection governance. This training adopts the mode of “theoretical teaching + on-site exchange”, aiming to promote the precise docking of international cutting-edge technology and Chinese market demand. In the future, the organizers will continue to integrate high-quality resources at home and abroad, and strive to build a diversified and in-depth exchange platform.

Academician Harsha Ratnaweera, who holds the titles of Academician of the Norwegian Academy of Science, Academician of the European Academy of Sciences, President of the European Water Association, and Board Member of the International Water Association, delivered a lecture on the theme of “Innovative process surveillance and process control – a system for improved process surveillance, performance, and economics”, sharing cutting-edge global concepts and practical experiences. The participants engaged in in-depth discussions and Q&A sessions regarding technical challenges and application prospects.

Wang Xiaodong, a professor at Qingdao University of Technology and the general manager of Qingdao Daosikang Environmental Protection Technology Co., Ltd., delivered a lecture titled “Research on Production Experiment of Wastewater Treatment Chemicals Dosing Control Based on Virtual-Real Combined Instrumentation Network”, which focused on the implementation strategies and application cases of international advanced technologies in China’s actual scenarios.

Build a platform to jointly promote innovative development in the industry

The successful holding of this international technical training not only provided domestic practitioners in underground space environmental governance with a valuable opportunity to directly dialogue with top international experts and learn the most cutting-edge technologies, but also established a high-level platform for international exchange and cooperation. The event effectively promoted the transformation and application of international advanced environmental governance technologies in the Chinese market, which is of great significance for enhancing the overall technical level and innovation capability of China’s sewage treatment and underground space environmental governance, and promoting the high-quality and sustainable development of related industries.
