From November 29th to 30th, 2025, the “3rd Scientific Development Forum on Underground Space,” jointly organized by the Underground Space Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Urban Studies and the Tianjin Rail Transit Association, was held in Tianjin. The theme of the conference was “Resilience as the Foundation, Digital Intelligence as the Driver.”
The “3rd Scientific Development Forum on Underground Space,” themed “Resilience as the Foundation, Digital Intelligence as the Driver,” was held in Tianjin from November 29th to 30th, 2025. The forum was jointly organized by the Underground Space Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Urban Studies and the Tianjin Rail Transit Association.
The conference was attended by Luo Jinfei, Vice Chairman of the Tianjin Association for Science and Technology; Zhang Dingli, Executive Deputy Director of the Professional Committee and President of the Beijing Jiaotong University Sichuan-Tibet Railway Research Institute; Zheng Gang, Vice President of Tianjin University; Zhang Xingyan, President of the Tianjin Rail Transit Association; Huang Weili, General Manager of China Railway Design Group; Zhu Ganping, Deputy Director of the Professional Committee and Chief Engineer of Tianjin Rail Transit Group; and Tao Lianjin, Professor at Beijing University of Technology. Bai Nan, Deputy Secretary-General of the Professional Committee and General Manager of Tianjin Metro Group, served as the host for the opening ceremony of the forum. Over 200 experts, scholars, and representatives from the underground space sector participated in the conference.





At the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman Luo Jinfei of the Tianjin Association for Science and Technology, Professor Zhang Dingli, Executive Deputy Director of the Professional Committee, President Zhang Xingyan of the Tianjin Rail Transit Association, Vice President Zheng Gang of Tianjin University, Zhu Ganping, Deputy Director of the Professional Committee and Chief Engineer of Tianjin Rail Transit Group, Jia Guangwu, General Manager of the Transportation Company of China Railway Sixth Bureau Group, and Jia Jianwei, Chief Engineer of China Construction Sixth Engineering Bureau Rail Transit Company, jointly launched the official website of the Professional Committee.

The keynote session was chaired by Professor Fang Qian, Deputy Secretary-General of the Professional Committee and professor at Beijing Jiaotong University. Five top industry experts delivered insightful academic reports centered on the conference theme, integrating theoretical research with extensive practical experience.






The invited report session was jointly chaired by Qiu Pinming, Deputy Secretary-General of the Professional Committee and Secretary and Manager of the Guangzhou Metro Project Department of China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group, and Zhao Guang, Deputy Secretary-General of the Professional Committee and Director of the Underground Space Research Center of JSTI Group. Eight industry experts shared practical experiences and innovative achievements focusing on hot topics such as new underground engineering technologies, digital empowerment, and green development.










During the conference, the Professional Committee organized visits to the China Railway Design Group National Engineering Research Center for Digital Construction and Evaluation Technology of Urban Rail Transit (China Railway Design Group Engineering Laboratory) and the Tianjin University National Center for Earthquake Engineering Science. Attendees focused on inspecting core experimental facilities, observing demonstrations of cutting-edge research, and engaging in on-site exchanges with the centers’ scientific researchers.











The Forum on Scientific Development of Underground Space is a key academic conference in the field of underground space organized by the Chinese Society for Urban Studies, and it also serves as the annual academic meeting of the Underground Space Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Urban Studies. The “3rd Forum on Scientific Development of Underground Space” brought together numerous authoritative experts and industry leaders. Through diverse formats such as keynote speeches, invited reports, and technical visits, participants engaged in in-depth discussions on cutting-edge topics including tunnel design, intelligent construction, and disaster prevention and safety. The successful hosting of the forum not only provided forward-thinking ideas and practical solutions for enhancing the resilience and digital transformation of underground engineering but also facilitated deep integration of industry, academia, research, and application through on-site visits to major national scientific research facilities. This has injected strong new momentum into guiding the underground space field toward a safer and more intelligent future.
